Concrete Additives & SCMs

Both microsilica and ggbs are key supplementary cementitious materials used in concrete to enhance strength durability and sustainability
Micro Silica (Silica Fume)
  • Particle Size: Extremely fine (much finer than cement)
  • Function in Concrete:
    1. Fills pores (micro filler), increasing density
    2. Significantly improves strength (especially early strength)
    3. Increases durability and resistance to chemicals
    4. Improves resistance to chloride and sulfate attacks
  • Typical Use: High-performance concrete (HPC), bridges, marine structures, etc.
GGBS (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag)
  • Function in Concrete:
    1. Replaces part of Portland cement (usually 30–70%)
    2. Reduces heat of hydration (good for mass concrete)
    3. Improves long-term strength
    4. Enhances durability and reduces permeability
  • Typical Use: Mass concrete works, sustainable construction, structures exposed to aggressive environments
